Task 2: LO1 Purpose and uses social media channels

 What are the purposes of social media channels and products?

Globalisation- the production, distribution and consumption of media products on a global scale, facilitating the exchange and diffusion of ideas cross-culturally. However, some have argued that media is actually a partial cause of globalisation, rather than just another globalised industry. Media is largely a cultural product, and the transfer of such a product is likely to have an influence on the recipient's culture. increasingly, technology has also been propelling globalisation. 

Disney 

-Types of products: movies, sponsorships products (merchandise).

- Cinderella:

Gender: the female roles are shown to be negative from the step-mother being evil and so are the step-sisters. However the male gender is also portrayed to be the more superior gender, from the male being shown as the more superior gender it shows the stereotypical view that men are more stronger and have more power over women and they can solve all issues a woman has. 

Ethnicity: In the movie there is show of Mexican Americans bandits attacking white people, this shows the stereotypical views of multiracial people being dangerous and violent. This then infers the stereotypical views to the audience that the only dangerous people are multiracial people, this is shown through there only being white people at the ball unless they are rich or servants. 

Class: Cinderella was born in the upper class however when her father remarried and died the step-mother degraded Cinderella into the lower class by making her a servant for herself. When Cinderella marries the Prince she's then upgraded back to upper class. This then creates the stereotypical view that men solve all all women's problems, it also shows the view that for stepchildren to escape their stepparents they have to marry out of the family at a young age. 

Age: This movie portrays the idea of children getting marries at a young age to then be marriage material, there is then shown for the older siblings to be the horrible bullies of the story and the stepmother to also be evil to the child that isn't originally hers. This has then created a stereotypical view of stepmothers being evil towards their stepchild, this has created a fear for children that's parents are split. 

Sexuality: This movie represents the idea of what women should look like for a man to marry them, including being wealthy, pretty, silky hair, tiny waists and with flawless skin. This shows the sexuality and expectations of women for a man to marry them. This is a stereotypical view of how women should be and the type of females that men will marry and pay attention too.
